The JHS Overdrive Preamp is a faithful replication of the unobtainable V1 of DOD's most loved pedal. The controls are simple. The Level control adjusts the overall output of the circuit and lets you cut or boost the signal. The level control of this version has been modified (corrected) from the original wiring of the #75 unit, giving this pedal much more volume on tap. The Gain control adjusts the amount of gain inside the overdrive circuit. Turning up "Gain" creates more clipping as it pushes the op-amp and hard clipping into overdrive. JHS also added a slider switch to this production version which wasn't included with the original DOD 250. While researching the #75 "Big Box" pedal, JHS acquired a second early big-box unit which used a completely different clipping arrangement. It only seemed fair to offer this switch so that you could explore these two variations for yourself.

This pedal gives you all the soaring overdrive and distortion that you hear from Andy with plenty of options to craft your tone with your rig. Does the AT+ sound the same as the original AT?Yes! The drive channel of the AT+ is identical to the company's original AT pedal. No changes were made whatsoever and the controls remain the same. They include Volume, EQ, Drive, Air, and a three-way toggle for 25-watt, 50-watt, or 100-watt modes. The Volume gives you plenty of headroom to play with, while the Drive control has a wide range from high gain blues to thunderous distortion. The tone controls work together to give you the ability to shape your tone and sit perfectly in a mix. The EQ works as a standard bright/dark tone control, while the Air control rolls in top end like a presence control so you can have just the right amount of brightness for articulation and clarity. The Master volume controls the overall volume of the unit. The Pre-Vol controls the amount of gain between the two internal gain stages. This acts as a ""drive"" or ""gain"" control, adding more grit, distortion and even fuzz as you increase the gain. The Step control increases the gain of each preamp stage in five stages. The Emperor V2 is a vintage-correct effect that absolutely nails the hard-to-find sound of the Arion SCH-1, but it's also a do-it-all modulation solution whether you want a subtle sheen, convincing rotary simulation, or seasick vibrato. It utilizes a Bucket Brigade 3207 chipset to deliver the warmth of '80s-style analog chorus pedals and the designers added enough onboard and outboard control to put you in command of every aspect of the Emperor’s voice. Whether spreading its warm tones or icy sheen to a pristine-sounding stereo rig, or utilizing an external expression pedal to cop realistic rotary speaker sounds on a blues gig, the Emperor can do it all. So Much ModulationThe designers call the Emperor an analog chorus/vibrato. That’s just because calling it a true analog chorus/pitch vibrato with tap tempo/waveform selection/rotary speaker simulation/true stereo output/and more pedal would have been a pain to write every time. Updated Tone Shaping CapabilitiesMaking a good thing better? Yes please. The Emperor V1 had a Tone control which has now become the EQ control in the Emperor V2. JHS replaced the passive tone control in the V1 with an active EQ control that functions as a Tilt. You'll now have much more tone shaping capability in the V2. The overall EQ control is much improved in the Emperor V2 and you will not lose any low-end sometimes commonly found with chorus/vibrato pedals. In-Depth Tempo ControlTo control the rate of the Emperor’s effect, simply turn the Speed knob up and down or tap the tap tempo footswitch. Or for the more adventurous among us...plug in an expression pedal for variable control in real time. And you can even slave the pedal to other tap-controlled pedals for rhythmic consistency across all your effects. The JHS Overdrive Preamp is a faithful replication of the unobtainable V1 of DOD's most loved pedal. The controls are simple. The Level control adjusts the overall output of the circuit and lets you cut or boost the signal. The level control of this version has been modified (corrected) from the original wiring of the #75 unit, giving this pedal much more volume on tap. The Gain control adjusts the amount of gain inside the overdrive circuit. Turning up "Gain" creates more clipping as it pushes the op-amp and hard clipping into overdrive. JHS also added a slider switch to this production version which wasn't included with the original DOD 250. While researching the #75 "Big Box" pedal, JHS acquired a second early big-box unit which used a completely different clipping arrangement. It only seemed fair to offer this switch so that you could explore these two variations for yourself.

"The Colour Box V2 has all the same functionality of the V1 with many new and improved additions like expanded EQ controls, a Hi/Lo switch for massive clean headroom, and the ability to pass phantom power to your condenser mics. The Master volume controls the overall volume of the unit. The Pre-Vol controls the amount of gain between the two internal gain stages. This acts as a ""drive"" or ""gain"" control, adding more grit, distortion and even fuzz as you increase the gain. The Step control increases the gain of each preamp stage in five stages. Rotating the Step knob from left-to-right will increase the gain by the following: 1st is +18dB, 2nd is +23dB, 3rd is +28dB, 4th is +33dB, 5th is +39dB. The Colour Box V2 has a new Hi/Lo switch to control the amount of clean headroom you have available. In the Lo mode, you will easily be able to get ultra clean sounds without breakup. Lo Mode is excellent for tone shaping when distortion is not needed. In the Hi mode, the Colour Box V2 will distort much more readily, giving you a broad spectrum of overdrive, distortion and fuzz sounds. In addition to the Hi/Lo gain switch, there is a -20dB pad switch on the right side of the Colour Box V2. This function only works when in XLR input mode and can help tame the volume for high-output microphones. The EQ section in blue has three new Shift controls correlating to its standard Treble, Middle and Bass controls. The Shift knobs adjust the range of frequencies that the Treble, Middle, and Bass knobs control. The center frequencies for the Shift knobs are Treble 10kHz, Middle 1kHz and Bass 120Hz, while the Treble, Middle and Bass knobs boost or cut with +/- 17dB of control. If you want to boost high-mid frequencies, turn the Mid Shift knob to 3 o'clock or above, and increase the Middle knob above 12 o'clock. If you want to cut upper treble frequencies, turn the Treble Shift knob to 3 o'clock or above and set the Treble knob below 12 o'clock. The Shift knobs give you precision control over the EQ for anything you put through the Colour Box V2.The Hi-Pass section is enabled by the toggle switch below the Hi-Pass knob. Just flip it up to engage the Hi-Pass knob, which spans from 60Hz to 800Hz with a 6dB per octave slope. The Colour Box V2 has a combination XLR and 1/4"" input jack to use either an instrument or microphone. There are two ways to look at the JHS Pedals Emperor Analog Chorus/Vibrato pedal. The Emperor V2 is a vintage-correct effect that absolutely nails the hard-to-find sound of the Arion SCH-1, but it's also a do-it-all modulation solution whether you want a subtle sheen, convincing rotary simulation, or seasick vibrato. It utilizes a Bucket Brigade 3207 chipset to deliver the warmth of '80s-style analog chorus pedals and the designers added enough onboard and outboard control to put you in command of every aspect of the Emperor’s voice. Whether spreading its warm tones or icy sheen to a pristine-sounding stereo rig, or utilizing an external expression pedal to cop realistic rotary speaker sounds on a blues gig, the Emperor can do it all. So Much ModulationThe designers call the Emperor an analog chorus/vibrato. That’s just because calling it a true analog chorus/pitch vibrato with tap tempo/waveform selection/rotary speaker simulation/true stereo output/and more pedal would have been a pain to write every time. Updated Tone Shaping CapabilitiesMaking a good thing better? Yes please. The Emperor V1 had a Tone control which has now become the EQ control in the Emperor V2. JHS replaced the passive tone control in the V1 with an active EQ control that functions as a Tilt. You'll now have much more tone shaping capability in the V2. The overall EQ control is much improved in the Emperor V2 and you will not lose any low-end sometimes commonly found with chorus/vibrato pedals. In-Depth Tempo ControlTo control the rate of the Emperor’s effect, simply turn the Speed knob up and down or tap the tap tempo footswitch. Or for the more adventurous among us...plug in an expression pedal for variable control in real time. And you can even slave the pedal to other tap-controlled pedals for rhythmic consistency across all your effects.
