The Katzenkönig distortion guitar pedal loves both single coils and humbuckers, and sounds great in front of a clean amp or an overdriven amp (or pedal). The Katzenkönig combines the best elements of a Tone Bender MkII fuzz and a Rat distortion. The circuit is all-discrete, using a trio of silicon transistors in a modified Tone Bender MkII arrangement with the output section of a Rat, including its clipping section, filter and output buffer. The result is a pedal that Catalinbread tuned to offer a huge range of response—from a really beautiful singing tone to tight, harmonically rich crunch, all the way to fuzz mayhem. A simple, four-knob control scheme allows you to dial in your sound quickly and without much fuss:INPUTControls the input sensitivity. Turn it down when using higher-output pickups and humbuckers or to dial in your wah sound (more on that later). Turn it up for lower output pickups or for when you want to go over-the-top. The input control can also be used to tune Katzenkönig's response to a wah plugged in front of it. GAINControls the gain of the second gain stage. It is not a conventional gain control, rather, it controls the amount of negative feedback in that stage. What does that mean for you? The Catalinbread CBX Gated Reverb effects pedal gives you full control over a classic studio trick popularized in the ‘80s by Phil Collins and Bruce Springsteen known as gated reverb. Originally, this involved an SSL console’s talkback mic channel fed back through the console preamp and into a noise gate. In the primordial ooze of studio tricks, many recording engineers had to invent their own effects. Double tracking and flanging started as manual manipulations of magnetic tape and the machinery used to process it. One such effect is gated reverb, the combination of digital reverb and noise gate, “invented” in the ’70s but popularized in the ’80s by Phil Collins. Like many now-legendary effects, gated reverb was invented by accident using the Solid State Logic SL4000 Talkback Mic channel and AMS RMX16 digital reverb units. The premise is simple enough: The gate is a function of the signal strength—once the signal level drops below an adjustable threshold, the reverb tail snaps shut. Catalinbread’s CBX recreates this magical symbiosis with an overdrivable preamp, adjustable reverb lag time and a full wet-dry blend. The result is a lovely and expressive “always-on” reverb that stays in its lane and won’t interfere with the all-important mix. Lag: This adjusts the delay between the original note played and the onset of the gate. You can use the lower half of the control to fine-tune your picking attack, and just past noon gives you slapback and reverse-esque sounds. Think of it as a pre-delay control for the gate. Verb: On a reverb pedal with no gate, this would control how long the reverb tail rings out. But since there’s a gate, this essentially governs the thickness of the reverb. Setting this knob low gives some mild reverberation and maxing it out gives a huge, harmonically rich reverb sound. Gate: Controls the sensitivity of the gate. Keep this low for the least amount of gating and longest reverb trails, turn up for running higher gain devices before or making the effect more subtle. When the Gate knob is all the way down, the gate is removed from the circuit. This can be manipulated with your guitar's volume control by lowering the signal level and forcing the gate to clamp shut. Mix: Controls the balance between dry and wet signals. When set to its minimum, you will hear just the dry signal fed through the preamp. At maximum, the reverberated signal is the only thing present. Pre: Controls the level of the onboard preamp. Power supply: The CBX accepts a center-negative DC power supply from 9 to 18 volts, capable of supplying at least 100mA of current (over is fine). Plugging in anything other than this (center-positive, AC, higher voltage, etc.) will potentially brick the CBX. Check your supply and make 100 percent sure it says all the right stuff. If you plug in the wrong supply, you’ll immediately send your pedal to the shadow realm. Even though that sounds pretty cool, your CBX doesn’t want to go there. A tightness knob lets you shave off the sub-bass for a little extra clarity or completely attenuate the low end for some cool thrash metal tones. A Line Out jack gives you a dedicated +10dB output that you can use with a mixer or DAW, and you can use both outputs simultaneously. "The Dirty Little Secret has earned itself a well-deserved reputation for replicating the sound and feel of a classic-era Marshall amplifier, supplying one of the most iconic guitar sounds in music. When the JFETs used as the base for the Dirty Little Secret were discontinued, and as the designers' stock of them began to dwindle they knew they had to find ones still being manufactured. However, rather than simply re-voicing around these new JFETs, we decided to push the envelope and provide an amazingly robust feature-set, from ever evolving listening and circuit skills, and pure power of intention. This isn't just ""a"" Marshall in a box, it's the most versatile and dynamic Marshall-style overdrive out there! The ""Super Lead"" mode expands the range of the DLS MkII with more gain available and more control over your tone sculpting with the addition of the midrange control while still enhancing the touch-sensitive dynamic qualities that make the DLS so great to play. The gain range now goes from classic plexi all the way to modified JCM800 levels and can get even more raw and open than any previous DLS. The Catalinbread CBX Gated Reverb effects pedal gives you full control over a classic studio trick popularized in the ‘80s by Phil Collins and Bruce Springsteen known as gated reverb. Originally, this involved an SSL console’s talkback mic channel fed back through the console preamp and into a noise gate. In the primordial ooze of studio tricks, many recording engineers had to invent their own effects. Double tracking and flanging started as manual manipulations of magnetic tape and the machinery used to process it. One such effect is gated reverb, the combination of digital reverb and noise gate, “invented” in the ’70s but popularized in the ’80s by Phil Collins. Like many now-legendary effects, gated reverb was invented by accident using the Solid State Logic SL4000 Talkback Mic channel and AMS RMX16 digital reverb units. The premise is simple enough: The gate is a function of the signal strength—once the signal level drops below an adjustable threshold, the reverb tail snaps shut. Catalinbread’s CBX recreates this magical symbiosis with an overdrivable preamp, adjustable reverb lag time and a full wet-dry blend. The result is a lovely and expressive “always-on” reverb that stays in its lane and won’t interfere with the all-important mix. Lag: This adjusts the delay between the original note played and the onset of the gate. You can use the lower half of the control to fine-tune your picking attack, and just past noon gives you slapback and reverse-esque sounds. Think of it as a pre-delay control for the gate. Verb: On a reverb pedal with no gate, this would control how long the reverb tail rings out. But since there’s a gate, this essentially governs the thickness of the reverb. Setting this knob low gives some mild reverberation and maxing it out gives a huge, harmonically rich reverb sound. Gate: Controls the sensitivity of the gate. Keep this low for the least amount of gating and longest reverb trails, turn up for running higher gain devices before or making the effect more subtle. When the Gate knob is all the way down, the gate is removed from the circuit. This can be manipulated with your guitar's volume control by lowering the signal level and forcing the gate to clamp shut. Mix: Controls the balance between dry and wet signals. When set to its minimum, you will hear just the dry signal fed through the preamp. At maximum, the reverberated signal is the only thing present. Pre: Controls the level of the onboard preamp. Power supply: The CBX accepts a center-negative DC power supply from 9 to 18 volts, capable of supplying at least 100mA of current (over is fine). Plugging in anything other than this (center-positive, AC, higher voltage, etc.) will potentially brick the CBX. Check your supply and make 100 percent sure it says all the right stuff. If you plug in the wrong supply, you’ll immediately send your pedal to the shadow realm. Even though that sounds pretty cool, your CBX doesn’t want to go there.
